Museum director's book launched
THE Bermuda Maritime Museum this week published a new book that reprints the articles from the Mid-Ocean News in 2005 by the executive director, Dr. Edward Harris. The new publication is called Heritage Matters, Volume I, and is in full colour throughout.
The Bank of Bermuda Foundation has sponsored the printing of the book, which contains an introduction by Joseph Johnson, chairman of the Foundation.
A reception on Tuesday night, hosted by the Foundation, was held for several hundred members of the museum at City Hall, where they received a complimentary copy of the book.
Sheila Nicoll, chairman of the museum’s Board of Trustees, welcomed the guests, including Community & Cultural Affairs Minister Wayne Perinchief, and introduced the vice-chairman of Bank of Bermuda Foundation, David Hamshere, who presented remarks on behalf of the Foundation.
Mr. Hamshere thanked Dr. Harris for writing the series on Heritage Matters for the newspaper and editor Tim Hodgson and assistant editor Ivan Clifford for their support of the most interesting articles.
He noted that Bank of Bermuda Foundation was very pleased to be able to sponsor this publication and hoped it would be widely available in the Bermuda school system, adding weight, he said, to the Premier Ewart Brown’s suggestion that the heritage and history of the island should be taught more.
Mr. Hamshere hoped that Dr. Harris would be encouraged by the reception of this first book to publish the articles frome the Mid-Ocean News from 2006.
