Strange 50 sees off Cuts
Leg Trappers 206; Willow Cuts 172
All-rounder Graham Strange scored a fine half century and then seized three wickets to inspire Leg Trappers to a 34-run win over Willow Cuts at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday.
Strange stroked exactly 50 runs to help see to it the hosts posted a respectable total to defend on the smaller confines at the Oval.
Bergon Spencer led the Cuts bowling with four for 24.
In reply, senior batsman Dexter Basden led the Cuts’ run chase. But not even a solid knock of 57 from the former Somerset Cup Match skipper could prevent Cuts from falling shy of the target as Strange went on to grab three for 27 off ten overs to cap off a memorable all round performance.
PHC 126; Devonshire 131 for three
Skipper Dean Stephens stroked an unbeaten 89 off 58 balls and seized two for 21 to guide Devonshire to a seven-wicket win over PHC at White Hill Field.
Stephens, bidding to reclaim a spot in Somerset’s Cup Match team this year, combined with cousin Derek Brangman who took three for 28 to dismiss hosts PHC for a modest total.
PHC player-coach Mark Smith topped his team’s batting with a well played 25 along with Kevin Tucker, who chipped in with 23.
In pursuit of their winning target Stephens played a true skipper’s innings, spraying the ball to all segments of the ground in an entertaining knock containing 14 fours and two sixes.
Tucker led the PHC bowling with one for 31
Warwick 91; Bailey’s Bay 95 for five
National team skipper Irving Romaine and seamer Jim West led Bailey’s Bay to a five-wicket victory over Warwick at Southampton Oval.
West seized five for 19 as Warwick were skittled out for a paltry total while Romaine later starred with the bat by slamming an unbeaten 42 as Bay achieved victory with five wickets in hand.
Quinton Burch was the pick of the Warwick bowling with four for 26 off six overs while another veteran, Perry Scott, topped the hosts’ batting with 12 runs.
Police 280; Somerset Bridge 162
Police piled on the runs against visiting Somerset Bridge at Police to come away with a comprehensive 118 run win.
Daniel Reece led the Police batting with an unbeaten half century (57). Off break spinner Jermaine Salaam was the best Bridge bowler with two for 25.
Salaam also came good with the bat by hitting a fine 51, however the all rounder couldn’t garner the support of his team -mates as Bridge fell well shy of the target.
Anderson Cumberbatch did the bowling damage for Police, claiming three for 18 off five overs of off spin.
