Members of the community had the opportunity to learn about foster care at a recent recruitment drive at Gorham’s.

The Department of Child and Family Services said that the Foster Bermuda’s Future drive on May 24 was a success, providing a platform for the community to learn about foster care and foster parenting.

Selena Simons, foster care co-ordinator, said: “Our information table was filled with valuable resources and literature pertaining to foster care and foster parenting. Visitors had the opportunity to engage with knowledgeable social workers and gain insights into the profound impact they can make on a child's life by becoming foster parents.

“Our ‘Foster Bermuda’s Future’ campaign was launched in celebration of Foster Care Month, and has been celebrated in the community. One of our first initiatives involved vibrant bus banners, displayed on Bermuda's public transportation, raising awareness and inspiring potential foster parents to take action.

“In addition, the DCFS Foster Care Team organised kinship care training and the highly anticipated annual Foster Parents Appreciation Tea to honour Bermuda's remarkable and devoted foster families.”

Ms Simons thanked Gorham’s for its support.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, added: “With May recognised as Foster Care Month, it is a reminder for all residents of Bermuda to open their hearts and homes to help shape a brighter future for vulnerable children.

“The DCFS Foster Care Team urges individuals and families across the island to consider becoming foster parents and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need.

“Together, let us foster Bermuda's future and create a nurturing environment for every child in our community.”
