BSX slips back

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) suffered a setback as it slipped back from its all-time high record yesterday.

The index finished down 47.53 points (0.88 percent) at 5,334.53, as a total of 13,479 shares were traded, with turnover at $719,857.

Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. saw the most significant change, up 75 cents (seven percent) to close at $11.50, with 2,500 shares changing hands.

Butterfield Bank continued to show strongly on the Index following its announcement of record quarterly net income of $35.9 million and a three-for-one share split.

Despite losing $1(1.5 percent) off their share value, after trading 10,819 shares they closed on $64, still within $1 of their 52-week high.

The BSX Insurance Index finished down 29.81 points (2.35 percent) at 1239.18.
