Snorkel Park offers what visitors want — entertainment where Bermudians hang out
If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do tonight, Snorkel Park is the place to be.
Every Tuesday night, Snorkel Park is transformed from a relaxing beach bar and grill to a lively reggae party featuring local reggae band, Homegrown. Ray Lambert, the manager of Snorkel Park spoke to The Royal Gazette about what people can expect at the weekly event.
“Basically, for us Tuesday night is the night the cruise ships are in town. Bermuda and the Department of Tourism have been seeking night time initiatives to deal with the questions of what there is to do in Bermuda at night. We’ve made it a big part of our programme to address that problem at Snorkel.
“In addition to our great daytime activities, we want to utilise the facility at night to put on large outdoor entertainment projects. Reggae beach party was what we thought would make a great fit for Snorkel Park and Bermudians. And also (offers) what visitors are looking for — entertainment where Bermudians hang out.”
Mr. Lambert said the event attracts all kinds of people, ages, races and sectors within community and was created in conjunction with Chamber of Commerce Destination Dockyard.
For those who think Dockyard is too far to drive, why not take the ferry? The regular fast ferries go up to Dockyard until 11.30 p.m. and a special ferry leaves at 1.30 a.m.
Mr. Lambert said they have also arranged special transportation for tourists staying at the hotels.
“For visitors, we are running a shuttle service with mini buses leaving the park at 1.15 and going down South Shore as far Elbow Beach Hotel and Harmony Club. It gives people easy access back to their hotels. It has been really busy and is working really well,” he said.
In addition to the band, there are special beach cocktails and the snack bar and Hammerheads Grill are open as well for those who get the munchies. Mr. Lambert said: “It’s getting busier every week.”
The party is also an inexpensive night of entertainment.
“Well it’s live music and live music for $10,” Mr. Lambert said. “There are few places you can go in the world where live music is running as consistently as we run it for the price we run it. People pay $25 for parties were its all recorded stuff and this is a quality band. Homegrown is definitely coming into their own. Each week they get better and better. Their music really needs to be appreciated.”
He said the band and the sound system make the night happen. There is also a full security team to make sure people “check their attitude at the gate and come in have a good time”.
Mr. Lambert said flyers for the event that actually operate as a vouchers at the party. They are available through the Pop and Sizzle Ambassadors. Burrows and Lightbourne, one of the sponsors is on hand for great give-aways including T-shirts and party favours.
Reggae Beach Party starts every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. until 1.30 a.m. with a cover charge of $10.
