Post Office to send rep to Smithsonian Folklife Festival

A representative of the Post Office’s Philatelic Bureau will be travelling to the 2007 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington D.C. this week.

Stanley Taylor, will take part in the festival themed “Roots of Virginia Culture” in keeping with the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia.

As part of the celebration, the bureau will present Senator John Warner (Rep. Virginia) a complimentary First Day Cover and full set of philatelic items from the Bermuda to Jamestown commemorative series that was released last week.

The presentation will take place on June 27 in the Russell Senate Building.

According to a press release, Recently, Bermuda has been acknowledging the historical ties between Jamestown, Virginia.

In April, the Bermuda Regiment Band and other local bands travelled to the US to perform at the Virginia Tattoo.

And again on June 21 when the Philatelic Bureau released its latest commemorative stamp series honouring Jamestown.
