A 36-year-old woman will stand trial for allegedly attacking a female Police officer who stopped her for speeding.

Lucinda Hall, of Hermitage Drive, Devonshire, did not answer when asked at Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday how she pleaded to the charge plus an offence of resisting arrest on September 16 last year.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said she had previously denied the offences and he would record not guilty pleas. The case was adjourned until June 14 and Hall was bailed in the amount of $2,000 with one surety.

Repeat traffic offender narrowly escapes jail

A repeat traffic offender narrowly missed jail time and was ordered to pay more than $3,000 in fines, at Magistrates’ Court.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister told the court officers stopped Jonathan Bucy, 35, on Point Finger Road in Paget, after seeing him speeding on a motorcycle just after 2 a.m. on April 6.

Police asked him if he had been drinking, after smelling alcohol on his breath and he told them: “I was drinking at Café Cairo. I know my driving was impaired because I was drinking.”

It was then discovered, Bucy, of Lighthouse Lane, Southampton, was riding the cycle that wasn’t licensed and insured. He was already suspended from driving because he had previously refused an alcohol breath test.

He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he again, refused to give Police a breath sample.

Bucy pleaded guilty to the charges and told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “Sorry, I was going through a difficult period in time.”

Mr. Warner fined him $250 for the unlicensed motorcycle, $1,000 for not having third-party insurance, $1,500 for impaired driving and $500 for driving while disqualified.

The fines carry a total default time of more than nine months in prison.

Teenager admits drugs possession

An 18-year-old Paget man pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a controlled substance — cannabis and cocaine.

At Magistrates’ Court, Tyun Smith-Ming, of Ord Road, admitted to having the drugs after Police under the Misuse of Drugs Act searched him on February 2.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister said Police responding to a disturbance on St. Monica’s Road, in Pembroke, saw Ming standing by the road behaving nervously and at one point, he considered running away.

After approaching him they noticed he smelled of cannabis before searching him and found 0.92 grams of cocaine and 0.52 grams of cannabis inside a red plastic bag and brown paper twist.

He told Police about the drugs: “It’s not mine, it’s my cousin’s.” He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

The court heard that Ming had previous convictions and was previously on probation relating to another matter.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 for the cannabis and another $1,000 for the cocaine. Both carry three months default, at Westgate.
