Young athletes turn on style in the States

Bermuda's young athletes collected four gold medals, three silver and four bronze when they competed at the AAU National Club Championships at the Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida last week.

Some 20 athletes representing three of Bermuda's track clubs took part in the meet which attracted competitors from across the USA.

Trojans Track Club member Jomari Gooden boosted the Island's the medal charge as his individual haul in the primary boys age group included a gold in the long jump and a bronze in the 100 metres.

Collecting gold and silver in the boys youth 800 metres and 1500 metres was Kyle Godfrey while Kyla Bolden won gold and bronze in the sub midget 800 metres and 400 metres.

Linden Landy took silver in the sub bantam long jump, Esaiah Lister grabbed silver in the sub midget long jump, Justin Corday captured bronze in the midget 3000 metres and Victoria Clarke came away with a bronze in the sub midget 200 metres.

The total medal tally was 21 with medals also awarded to those finishing between fourth and eighth place.

The West End Athletic Club's (WEAC) sub midget girls also won their division.

Travelling as coach was Gregory (Ribs) Simons, head coach of the Trojans Track Club whose athletes were taking part in the event for the first time.

Those athletes were joined by 15 representing WEAC, making their tenth appearance, and two from the Mid Island Striders.Full results, see Scoreboard.
