Fines for drunk driving
Two men were fined $1,000 each and banned from driving for a year after admitting to drink driving offences yesterday in Magistrates’ Court.
Benjamin Walton, 28, of Mount Hill Mews, Pembroke, admitted to drinking and driving on May 12.
Police had stopped Walton at 8.40 p.m. for not wearing a helmet and observed that he had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, was slurring his speech and that his eyes were blood shot.
Walton told Police that he had “one or two drinks at Frescos”, but a breathalyser test revealed he had 204 milligrams of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of blood.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner joked: “One or two drinks — they must have been strong drinks.”
Also admitting to driving while intoxicated was Frederick Richardson, 29, of Foot’s Hill, Devonshire.
The court heard that Richardson’s car had collided with a motorcycle on September 29, 2005 on Parson’s Road.
Police observed that Richardson’s breath smelled of intoxicants and his speech was slurred, though he failed to give a sample of breath.
