A hat-trick from Jonathan Bean helped Somerset Trojans ensure they finished on the right side of an eight-goal thriller this week.

Seven days after being hammered 6-2 by Boulevard at Police Field in the FA Cup, Somerset righted that wrong in emphatic fashion against Devonshire Colts.

Although it took Trojans nineteen minutes to open the scoring, when Dane Benjamin headed home from a Tahj Wade corner kick, once they had broken the deadlock the goals came on a regular basis.

Bean added a second shortly before half-time, and then scored twice in two minutes mid way through the second half.

Colts had two of their own by then, with Shaquille Bean, the Trojans goalkeeper, gifting Lorendro Symonds the first, and Colts equalised in the 57th minute when Symonds sent Eli Smith through, and the striker calmly slid the ball past Bean.

The visiting side adding a fifth in the 84th minute when substitute Antoine Seaman’s shot went in off the right upright.

Colts managed a consolation goal thanks to defensive blunder that gifted Smith his second goal three minutes from time.

“There’s a lot of football left and the ups and downs are just the regular ebb and flow of a season,” Keishon Smith, the Trojans coach, said.

“However, at this point in the season we’re just trying to do what we need to do to get the results we need.

“We need to stay focused, step it up and play at a higher level as we still have a Concacaf Club Championship to prepare for.”
