Deadline for public service bursaries extended

The deadline for those hoping to receive public service bursary awards has been pushed back two weeks until next Friday.

The bursaries are valued at $20,000 and will be limited to five years of schooling.

A government spokeswoman said: “The bursary awards are the Government’s commitment to supporting the educational and career aspirations of Bermuda’s young people, and are specifically targeted to attract individuals for hard-to-fill roles within the Public Service.”

The Cabinet Office said it was looking for applicants to fill the posts of plans examiner for the Department of Planning, as well as a systems engineer, an assistant network engineer and a security analyst.

In the Ministry of Finance, a valuer is needed for the Department of Land Valuation, and a department controller is required for the Department of Social Insurance.

Positions in the Ministry of Public Works and Environment included a ministry comptroller, a management accountant, a veterinary officer, a solid waste manager, a highways civil engineer and an electrical engineer.

Applicants must be Bermudian, aged 40 or younger and be in an undergraduate or master’s degree programme with plans to join the Public Service.

They must have completed at least five years of school in Bermuda and have been accepted into an institute of higher learning, or taking courses in a qualification required within the Public Service.

Bursaries are given by the Public Service Commission and are not expected to cover all costs.
