PHC Field (Cleveland County won toss): Somerset beat Cleveland County by seven wickets

Jermal Proctor starred with bat and ball as Somerset ended their T20 league campaign with an easy victory over Cleveland County on Sunday.

Proctor, who had earlier taken three wickets, finished unbeaten on 38 as his side chased down Cleveland’s target of just 73 in 13.2 overs.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Cleveland’s innings never gained any momentum after Q’Shai Darrell became the first wicket to fall when he was bowled by Somerset captain Dominic Sabir for four.

Opener Steven Bremar Jr top scored for Cleveland with 19 but found partners hard to come by with only Kioshi Trott, who made 13 from 26 balls, and Makai Young (11) reaching double figures.

Proctor took the final three wickets of the innings in his final over and finished with figures of three for 11, while Sabir added Domain Rabain and Young to his list of victims alongside Bremar Jr for figures of three for 13 from three overs. Jade Morrissey, Jahniko Francis and Tayo Smith also picked up a wicket each.

Somerset faced a couple of early setbacks in their chase with opener Jahnoi Bean falling in the second over for just one when trapped leg before by Young. He was quickly followed by Alje Richardson, who was caught by Dewin Adams off the bowling by Tybrae Robinson for the same score.

Sabir made 12 at the rate of nearly a run a ball before Robinson had him caught by Isaiah Creighton. That left Amari Ebbin to come in at No 5 and he remained at the crease alongside Proctor to guide Somerset home with ease.

Victory completed a winning weekend for Somerset, who had beaten Devonshire Rec by 32 runs on Saturday. Those victories ensured that Somerset ended the T20 Premier Division in second position with four wins and one draw from their five games.

Cleveland County end the season in fifth and fail to qualify for the T20 Knockout Cup semi-finals, which take place next week. They will instead take on Devonshire Rec in the Plate.
