Registration is open for the 14th annual Mosaic You Go Girl Relay, happening on June 1 with a Wicked twist.

The hit movie and musical is this year’s special theme for the Women’s Resource Centre fundraiser.

“The fun factor of this event is legendary, and we are excited to celebrate another creative theme this year,” Mosaic Insurance chief operating officer Lisa Fontanetta said. “We hope relay racers of all ages will come out and enjoy it.”

Ms Fontanetta said her firm was proud to support an event that gave so much back to Bermuda, not only through the spirit of the actual race, but also the vital funding it raised for women in the community.

Since 2012, the women and girls relay, organised by Mid-Atlantic Athletic Club, known for participants’ colourfully costumed turnout, has raised about $135,000 for the WRC.

Last year’s theme was pop superstar Taylor Swift, generating a record $15,000 for the charity.

“As its name suggests, the You Go Girl Relay celebrates, encourages and challenges women and girls to come together and show strength and solidarity in a fun and meaningful event,” said Christine De Silva, of MAAC’s race organising committee. “We are proud of the backing of title sponsor Mosaic Insurance and our supporting sponsors. This is an event for women and girls of all ages and abilities in running and walking.”

The relay invites teams of three women or girls to participate in its 2K, 4K or 6K three-lap structure, with prize categories including open, family, corporate, masters, junior, walking and non-competitive teams.

All three team members can also choose to run the 6K together. Last year, younger girls’ races, for ages 4 to 7, were introduced to the format.

WRC executive director Juanae Crockwell said: “This event continues to champion the values of sisterhood, strength and community — values that align perfectly with our mission.”

Proceeds from this relay support mental health, advocacy and empowerment services at the WRC.

“We are deeply grateful to the organisers, sponsors and every participant for running — not just for themselves, but for all the women whose lives are uplifted through the work we do,” Ms Crockwell said.
