Nahki Wells’s Bristol City coach Liam Manning is poised to leave the Sky Bet Championship side for division rivals Norwich City according to English media reports.

Several media outlets in the UK have reported that the Manning, 39, is on the verge of agreeing to a deal which would see him succeed Johannes Hoff Thorup as the Canaries manager.

An official approach is expected in the next 24 hours, with Norwich reportedly prepared to pay Manning’s release clause of £800,000 to install him as their new manager at Carrow Road.

Former Wolves boss Gary O'Neil and ex-Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders are also reported to be among the candidates being considered by the Canaries.

Manning has been one of Wells’s biggest champions at City this season and this month urged the club to give the Bermudian forward a new contract with his deal expiring at the end of the campaign.

"I think I've made my point quite clear in what I think of Nahki and what I’d do with Nahki,“ Manning said.

“He’s been huge for us, the other lads love him and he’s so pivotal in everything that we do here. He’s had a terrific season and long may it continue.”

Wells scored ten goals and provided four assists in 39 league appearances for the Robins in the Championship this season and is negotiating a potential new deal with the club.

The 34-year-old is one of the longest-serving players in the Robins squad, having made 237 appearances and scored 48 goals for them since joining from Burnley in 2020.

The Robins finished sixth in the Championship under Manning’s stewardship before falling to a 6-0 aggregate defeat to Sheffield United in the play-off semi-final

The club have already confirmed that eight players will be leaving them this summer following the expiration of their contracts at Ashton Gate, while on-loan attacking midfielder George Earthy will be returning to parent club West Ham United.

Parting ways with the club are Stefan Bajic, Ayman Benarous, Kal Naismith, Kai Churchley, Tim Ap Sion, Marley Rose, Romani Rowe and Callum Wood.
