A vibrant pageant of music is expected tomorrow night when the Royal Bermuda Regiment takes to the Cabinet Office grounds for its annual Beating of the Retreat ceremony.
The event will start at 8pm and military music, popular tunes and a precision drill is expected to be performed by the RBR Band and Corps of Drums and the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, accompanied by the Bermuda Highland Dancers.
Beating Retreat, in its earliest form, was a drummers’ call.
The drum major and his men would march around the camp playing to warn soldiers that it was time to return to their billets and go to bed.
The ceremony in Bermuda puts soldiers through their paces, demonstrates drilling and provides a popular show for visitors and residents.
