Hit show Policing Paradise to return for second series
A series taking a light-hearted look at the Bermudian way of life through the eyes of police officers and members of the coastguard is to return to the screen next year.
The second season of Policing Paradise is again scheduled to be screened on Britain’s BBC One channel and produced by Spun Gold TV.
The series will shine a light on some of the island’s biggest summer celebrations, including Cup Match, to an international audience.
It will follow the work of the Bermuda Police Service and the Royal Bermuda Regiment Coastguard during peak tourist season, exploring the working lives of officers across the island, from dog handlers and jet ski patrols to daily beat patrol teams.
The BBC said filming is due to start this month.
Alex McLeod, the commissioning editor for BBC Daytime, said: “I am so excited we are back in Bermuda for series two of Policing Paradise.
“This is a truly unique place and we feel privileged to be able to have received such wonderful access so our viewers can experience what it’s like to police a paradise island in peak tourist season.”
Suspected illegal drug use at Harbour Nights, an arrest during a heated exchange at Cup Match and farm animals making a bid for freedom were among the real-life events captured in the first 16-episode series released in March.
The incidents on Bermuda’s roads were touched upon in a number of episodes, with police highlighting that, on average, one life is lost to the roads each month.
Clips of that series are still available on the BBC’s website.
Sarah Trigg, executive producer at Spun Gold TV, added: “We’re so pleased to be making a new series and to be invited back by the Bermuda Police Service after the warm welcome we received from the dedicated officers.
“The success of the show was a true reflection of their spirit, teamwork and the incredible support from many other key organisations across the island.
“It’s a real privilege to return this summer.”
A spokeswoman for the BPS added: “We are happy to be working with Spun Gold TV on a second series.”
The programme will follow officers and special constables from the service including those from across the Caribbean and a number of British recruits who have chosen to live and work in Bermuda.
The BBC said: “Audiences can expect the island itself to show its character, capturing breathtaking landscapes while exploring the Bermudian way of life through the eyes of the officers who serve the community.
“This series will shine the spotlight on the summer season, which will be in full swing, following the police response to the sudden influx of thousands of tourists arriving on mega cruise ships as well as capturing the Cup Match weekend, Harbour Nights, music festivals and parades, all of which demand a significant police presence.”
Policing Paradise is commissioned for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
