Nahki Wells signs for Luton Town
Nahki Wells will play against former club Bradford City next season after being signed by their League One rivals Luton Town.
The Bermuda striker, 35, joins on a free transfer after his contract expired at Bristol City at the end of last month.
Luton are hoping Wells will help them make a swift return to the Sky Bet Championship after suffering their second successive relegation in May.
New Luton manager Matt Bloomfield believes Wells has what it takes to fire his squad to promotion this season.
“Nahki is a proven goalscorer, has fantastic experience and good leadership, too,” Bloomfield said on the club’s official website
“He’s someone with know-how and a real desire to go and score goals, a real desire to go and achieve something and a real desire to be a part of what we are building.
“He is someone who is so highly thought of in the world of football; some of the references I had about him were just incredible.
“He is someone who is obviously really well known and liked within the game, highly respected and someone with a real know-how in the penalty area, which is what we’re really pleased to be bringing into the building.”
Wells flew to Slovenia to meet his new team-mates on Wednesday and participate in their pre-season training alongside fellow new signings Hakeem Odoffin and Nigel Lonwijk.
Luton fans could get their first glimpse of Wells in a friendly against Gillingham on July 19, with matches against Southend United on July 22 and Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on July 26 also among their pre-season fixtures. Luton will host AFC Wimbledon in their 2025-26 season opener at Kenilworth Road on August 1.
