Bermuda nearly tops region for internet consistency

Bermuda ranks second in the region for broadband consistency

Bermuda ranks second in the Caribbean for broadband consistency, delivering speeds of at least 25 megabits download and 3 Mbps upload to 86.1 per cent of users in Q2 2025, according to the latest data from Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence, the global testing authority.

The island trailed only Trinidad and Tobago (86.3 per cent) and edged out Puerto Rico (85.5 per cent) in the regional consistency rankings, a key metric used by analysts to evaluate the reliability of broadband infrastructure. That means the vast majority of users in Bermuda are experiencing dependable internet performance.

Bermuda also made strong gains in median download speed over the past 18 months, improving from 85.88 Mbps in Q1 2024 to 133.69 Mbps in Q2 2025 — a 56 per cent increase. That places it among the top 10 fastest territories in the region, joining Guadeloupe, Martinique and the British Virgin Islands in the over-100 Mbps club.

Across the Caribbean, fibre-optic roll-out continues to drive widespread improvement. The number of countries posting median download speeds over 100 Mbps more than doubled year-over-year, from four to 10. On average, regional download speeds rose 25 per cent.

Still, large disparities remain. Guadeloupe leads the region by a wide margin with a median download speed of 246.32 Mbps, while Cuba lags far behind with a consistency score of just 5.4 per cent.

Ookla found that Paradise Mobile had a median download speed of 219.68 Mbps overall and 281.28 Mbps on its 5G network, doubling its speeds in half a year.

This recognition placed Paradise at the top of the island’s 5G speed rankings for Q3-Q4 2024.
