BMDS to stage Ordinary Days next week
The Bermuda Musical and Dramatic Society’s next production will take audiences to New York City next week.
Paige Steinlet, the director of Ordinary Days, fell in love with the musical about 16 years ago and always wanted to bring it to the stage.
She explained: “When the time came to direct something with BMDS, it was one of the first things that popped into my mind.”
The show about four people whose lives intertwine in the city features music and lyrics by American Adam Gwon.
Jym Brier is musical director and pianist for the production, which stars Gillian Henderson, Kyle Salinas-Simmons, Allie Zuckerman and Owain Johnston-Barnes.
Ms Steinlet added: “It prioritises storytelling over the whole showmanship element with sparkly outfits and jazz hands.
“It really allows us to delve into the human side of it and maybe bring musicals to that portion of the world that don’t believe musicals are for them because they believe it is all glitz and glamour.”
She believes the show is grounded in reality and suitable for teenagers despite having a few swear words.
Ms Steinlet said: “My cast and crew have worked exceptionally hard to bring this whole thing to life and really bring a dream of mine to the stage.”
Ordinary Days will be performed at Daylesford Theatre on Dundonald Street from July 17 to 19, and 24 to 26. Tickets are $35 and can be bought at Ptix.bm
