Axis expands with renewables underwriting appointment
Axis Capital Holdings has named Moustafa Abdelrahman as senior underwriter and assistant vice-president for renewable energy, a strategic move that marks the company’s first renewables-focused property underwriter based in Toronto.
The Bermudian-headquartered speciality insurer said the appointment reflects its growing presence in Canada and its commitment to expanding tailored insurance solutions in the renewable energy sector.
Mr Abdelrahman will be responsible for underwriting construction and operational property risks across wind, solar, hydroelectric and battery storage projects. He will work closely with brokers and clients throughout Canada, the US and London.
“Moustafa brings experience and strong credentials to our global energy team as we build out our offerings to customers in Canada,” said Sam Walsh, head of North America renewable energy. “Having on-the-ground underwriting expertise is an exciting step forward for us as we lean into opportunities and rise to the challenges of a complex energy risk landscape.”
Mr Abdelrahman joins Axis from Brookfield Renewable, where he served as a senior analyst overseeing policy placement, acquisition due diligence and claims review across a broad portfolio. He also held previous underwriting roles at Intact Insurance, where he played a key role in shaping the company’s battery storage guidelines.
He will report directly to Mr Walsh as Axis continues to expand its North American renewable energy operations from its Bermuda base.
