Erica Hawley on Americas Cup podium for second time in week

Erica Hawley made it to the podium for the second time in a week after finishing third in the Americas Triathlon Cup Montreal on Saturday.

Hawley, who finished runner-up in Magog a week earlier, again produced the goods to complete the course in 57min 36sec, just 24 seconds behind winner Desirae Ridenour, from Canada, and five seconds behind runner-up Naomi Ruff.

The Bermudian exited the 750-metre swim in Parc Jean-Drapeau in fifteenth position before again showing her prowess on the 20km bike leg, recording the second-fastest time in the saddle among the 50-strong field.

That put Hawley among the leading contenders heading into the 5km run leg, which she completed in 17:13 to finish third overall.

She now plans to head to Europe to compete at World Traithlon level this summer.

Hawley did have some Bermudian company in Montreal with Nicholas Pilgrim contesting the elite men’s race.

Pilgrim finished 39th of the 50 competitors with a time of 53:57 after completing the swim in 9:17, the bike in 26:54 and the run in 16:43
