Bermuda’s retail sector saw a 3.7 per cent drop in the volume of sales in March 2025 compared with the same month last year, according to the latest Retail Sales Index published by the Ministry of Economy and Labour.

The value of retail sales was estimated at $94.9 million, with declines reported in three of the seven retail sectors.

Food stores recorded the largest decrease in sales volume at 5 per cent, followed by liquor stores, which fell 6.9 per cent. Apparel stores also saw a slight dip, down 1.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, four sectors posted year-over-year increases. Motor vehicle stores led the way with a 5.9 per cent rise in sales volume. Service stations were up 2.2 per cent, while both building material stores and all other store types rose 1.5 per cent.

“All other store types“ include shops selling household goods, furniture, electronics, pharmaceuticals and tourist-related items.

In contrast to local spending, selected overseas declarations jumped 24.5 per cent compared with March 2024, suggesting the continued appeal of overseas purchases.
