Nathan Trott picked up his first win in a Cardiff City shirt as the Bluebirds advanced in the Carabao Cup this week.

The Bermudian goalkeeper conceded his first goal in his second appearance for the League One side, but they nevertheless managed to edge League Two opponents Swindon Town 2-1 in a first-round clash at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night.

The home side dominated possession and the early chances in the first half, which took their toll in the 21st minute when forward Cian Ashford, one of five changes manager Brian Barry-Murphy made to his starting XI from the goalless draw away to Port Vale, scored from close range from forward Isaak Davies’s corner.

Ashford was denied a second goal shortly before the half when his effort struck a post before midfielder Rubin Colwill doubled Cardiff’s lead in first-half stoppage time with a spectacular free kick into the top corner.

Striker Princewill Ehibhatiomhan, who is on a season-long loan from Southampton, pulled one back for Swindon ten minutes into the second half.

However, that was as close as the visiting side would get, the Bluebirds held on for the win to secure their spot in the second round of the competition.

Trott, who has joined Cardiff on a season-long loan from Danish side FC Copenhagen, was credited with making just the one save on the back of posting a shutout on debut.

The 26-year-old is playing in the same league as compatriot Nahki Wells, who joined Luton Town from Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City.

Wells was not included in the Luton squad that suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Coventry City.
