Retail sales volume rises in April

Retail sales volume has increased 3.6 per cent when compared to April 2024. The Retail Sales Index number was calculated by adjusting for the retail sales volume of inflation, measured at 0.8 per cent in April, according to a Department of Statistics report released today.

In value terms, retail sales increased to an estimated $107.3 million.

Six of the seven sectors recorded year-over-year volume increases. The outlier was Liquor Stores, where sales volume decreased 7.3 per cent.

Food Stores’ sales volume increased 2.5 per cent, while Motor Vehicle Stores’ sales volume rose 11.9 per cent. The number for Service Stations’ sales volume was up 3.2 per cent.

The sales volume for Building Material Stores increased 5.8 per cent and the volume at Apparel Stores increased 4.6 per cent.

Sales volume increased 6.2 per cent in the All-Other Store Types sector, consisting of stores selling household items, furniture, appliances, electronics, pharmaceuticals and tourist-related goods.

Selected overseas declarations increased 9.1 per cent compared to April 2024.
