Bermuda down Aruba

Bermuda boys’ team have reached the main draw after beating Aruba on day two of the World Junior Tennis Championship qualifiers in Domingo, Dominican Republic.Courtland Boyle took to the court in Tuesday’s first match against Aruba’s Anthony Harmes, who won 6-1, 6-4.Boyle’s defeat meant Chris Rego’s match against Kyle Frankel was a must win for the Bermuda’s number one seed. Rego was given a tough test by Frankel but managed to take the victory 6-3, 6-1.In the deciding doubles match, Rego and Billy Courtland were cruising along after winning the first set 6-3 and serving at 40/15 for a 5- 2 lead in the second.But the Aruban pair of Hermes and Jermaine LeGrand had other ideas. LeGrand came up with some superb down the line drives at crucial times to turn things around.The outcome was an easy tiebreak of 7-2 for the Aruban’s to take the set 7-6.In the third set, Bermuda’s duo took total control of the match and won by a final score of 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-0.The boys’ team had a well deserved day off yesterday while the girls’ side took on Honduras.A valiant effort was made but Bermuda just did not have enough to stop their opponents.In the first match Christina Joynes lost to Francia Martinez 61, 64.In the second singles match Daniela Obando beat Eva Frazzoni 61, 60. In the doubles match the Honduran pair of Francia Martinez and Elisa Guillen were always able to stay just ahead of the Bermuda pairing of Taylor McHarg and Eva Frazzoni.Bermuda went down by a score of 6 3, 6 4.
