Smith and Robinson sponsor weekend youth workshop

Families can receive tips for interacting with young people at St Anne’s Church Hall in Southampton on Saturday.

One Bermuda Alliance MPs Dwayne Robinson and Linda Smith are sponsoring the free workshop facilitated by child and adolescent mental health specialist Chardonaé Rawlins.

The Simply Bloom Workshop will take place from 3pm to 5pm, highlighting youth wellbeing, troubling behaviours and how to build meaningful connections.

Mr Robinson, the MP for Southampton East Central (Constituency 30) and Shadow Minister of Tourism, Culture and Transport, said: “Regardless of age, we all interact with young people either through our jobs, family connections or just plain daily life, so this workshop is for parents, grandparents, teachers, neighbours, caregivers and anyone who interacts with children, cares about their wellbeing and our community.”

Ms Smith, MP for Southampton West Central (Constituency 31) and the Shadow Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said: “A number of young people live in challenging circumstances, which can lead to chronic stress and trigger responses that can be difficult to understand.

“This workshop will provide guidance and helping tools — family members and others interacting with young people will be introduced to new ways of thinking about, and addressing, the causes of difficult or awkward behaviours.”
