New Human Rights Tribunal members named
The Human Rights Commission has announced that four new people have been appointed to the Human Rights Tribunal panel.
A HRC spokeswoman said that Changez Khan, Melvin Douglas, Dean Parris and Ryan Robinson Perinchief were named as new panel members after a review process.
It was also announced that Christina Herrero and Steven White would remain on the Human Rights Tribunal as chair and deputy chair respectively, while Claire van Overdijk, Christopher Cunningham, Sita Ingram and Casey Schuler were reappointed.
The tribunal panel is responsible for adjudicating human rights complaints referred to it by the executive officer of the HRC.
Seth Darrell, the head of the selection and appointment committee, said the members were chosen after a “thorough evaluation process to ensure discerning minds and principled custodians assume responsibility”.
He added: “Each appointee possesses a record of excellence, a keen jurisprudential insight and a dedication to ensuring the application of the law, guaranteeing that each case before the HRT is adjudicated with impartiality.
“On behalf of the SAC, I welcome both the newly appointed and reappointed members to Bermuda’s HRT.”
