US visitor fined for importing cocaine

An American who arrived on a flight to the island with cocaine in his luggage was fined $4,000 in Magistrates’ Court.

Barry Barber, 66, admitted importing the controlled drug into Bermuda when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that police found a white powder in Barber’s bag at LF Wade International Airport after he landed on Tuesday.

Officers arrested Barber and the powder was revealed to be 3.76 grams of 88 per cent cocaine.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy ordered Barber, from Michigan, to pay the $4,000 fine before leaving Bermuda.
