Southampton Rangers got their First Division campaign off to a flyer after thrashing Hamilton Parish 15-0 at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

Sijay Samuels and Ellington Weldon led the charge with four goals each while Khalil Symonds added a brace. Jahir Smith, Dominique Hill, Daichon Chin, Donte Brangman and Dakarrie Steede also got their names on the scoresheet as Rangers ruthlessly exploited some poor defending.

“The scoreline is a little flattering,” Rangers’s newly installed coach Quincy Hunt told The Royal Gazette.

“But I talked to my team about preparations, so we are prepared to do what we have to do. plain and simple. That’s one thing I am trying to implement in my team is to be prepared to play and show up. I was happy that they showed up and did not drop their levels.

“We are trying to build a foundation, build players’ confidence and belief in themselves and help the club.”

Elsewhere on Sunday, second-half goals from senior duo Jaden Ratteray-Smith and Tahj Wade earned Somerset Trojans a 2-0 home win over Wolves at Somerset Cricket Club, while St David’s edged visiting Somerset Eagles 1-0 at Lord’s courtesy of Rushaine Murphy’s 22nd minute strike.

The 2025-26 First Division season officially kicked off on Friday night at Devonshire Recreation Club, where Robin Hood beat Vasco 6-2.

Keishen Bean led Hood’s charge with five goals, while Sami Carolo scored their other. Vasco replied through goals from Lucas Marcel and a penalty by Kevin Aruda.

Both teams ended the game with ten men after Vasco’s Kevin Cabral and Hood’s Curtis Jackson Jr received their marching orders in the 55th and 68th minutes respectively.

Like Hunt, Hood coach Sergio Goater also got his tenure at the helm off to a victorious start.

“It’s definitely a good start to get off with a win because the league is paramount for us,” Goater said.

“It’s good to get the first game out of the way and any team would love to have a player score five goals and get three points.”
