Climate group at The Loren offers grants to green charities
A climate group tied to a Bermuda hotel has announced a programme to fund non-profit organisations’ efforts to tackle climate change.
Roots, a wing of The Loren Hotel Group, will provide anywhere between $5,000 and $50,000 through the Bermuda Community Climate Programme.
Tarryn Clark, the general manager of The Loren Hotel in Bermuda, said the programme was “designed by Bermuda, for Bermuda”.
Leah Morrison, the managing director of Roots, added: “It’s about giving local organisations the support they need to turn their ideas into meaningful environmental and climate impact.”
The Bermuda Community Climate Programme is funded through the hotel group’s 2 Per Cent for 2 Degrees pledge, which dedicates 2 per cent of hotel and restaurant revenue towards climate action.
The money will be aimed at projects that will provide climate change resilience through carbon absorption, biodiversity strengthening, education, youth leadership and climate research.
Applications are open to registered Bermuda charities and non-profits. November 17 is the submission deadline. Successful projects will start next year.
