Police officers who were observed running with their weapons drawn in Hamilton today were responding to an armed robbery report, the Bermuda Police Service said.

The BPS said it was aware of public concern following the incident earlier this afternoon, during which the officers were observed running with their weapons along Church Street.

A police spokesman said: “They were responding to a report of an attempted armed robbery involving a firearm.

“Responding officers acted swiftly and in accordance with established protocols to ensure public safety.

“Following an extensive search of the surrounding area, no suspect was located.

“The individual who initially reported the matter has since declined to co-operate with police.”

While it investigates the circumstances surrounding the report, the police said there is no indication that there was any threat to the public.

“The Bermuda Police Service appreciates the concern shown by members of the public and thanks everyone for their understanding and co-operation as we work to make Bermuda safer,” the spokesman said.
