Police will hold sobriety checkpoints from tonight until November 11 in light of several celebrations, including the World Rugby Classic.

Superintendent Arthur Glasford, the officer in charge of the Tactical Operations Division, said the checkpoints would be part of “ongoing visibility policing efforts”.

He added: “Our intention is not to make things difficult for patrons attending the event over the next few days.

“Rather, it is to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward situations occurring.”

The World Rugby Classic will take place at North Field, National Sports Centre, in Pembroke between Saturday and November 7.

Parking will not be allowed on the sidewalks or bus lay-bys along Frog Lane.

Mr Glasford warned that any vehicles parked in these areas, whether partially or otherwise, will be ticketed.

He said: “Persons attending the games are encouraged to make use of parking facilities that will be made available at the Arboretum and other locations near by.”
