The walls of the Bermuda College campus will soon be adorned with murals created by students, thanks to a new partnership effort.

Two large-scale pieces of art will be added at the site in a collaboration with Bermuda Walls, a public art collective.

The murals are part of a wider commitment to enhance “campus vibrancy and create spaces that celebrate creativity, learning and Bermudian identity”.

It is anticipated that the walls will be decorated with student-led art and a call for submissions is under way.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Bermuda Walls to create a lasting visual legacy on our campus,” said David Sam, the Bermuda College president.

He added: “This project is about more than murals; it’s about making space for student voices, celebrating artistic talent and connecting art with education.”

Bermuda College students were invited to submit original mural concepts by November 21. Applicants must complete a Microsoft Form that includes imagery and concept details.

An internal selection committee will review submissions and select the top five designs by November 28.

The designs will then be forwarded to the Bermuda Walls mural festival team for final review and two winning murals will be selected in early December.

From January to February, the successful student artists will work closely with the Bermuda Walls team to refine their designs and prepare for installation.

The official announcement of winners will take place on Spirit Day on March 13 and work on the murals will commence later that month.

Bermuda Walls is known for transforming public spaces across the island with vibrant, large-scale works by local and international artists as well as an annual festival that takes place in Hamilton.

Glayson Leroy, a spokesman for the collective, said: “We are delighted that the college is taking part and encouraging its students to create some bold artwork that will help enliven the campus.

“We look forward to seeing the submissions and feel certain that we will be amazed by the creativity shown.”
