Prosecutors in Bermuda and Anguilla are working together as part of a new collaboration intended to share expertise across the region.

The Department of Public Prosecutions announced that it had begun a partnership with the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Anguilla.

Cindy Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, recently visited the British Overseas Territory alongside Shante Simons-Fox, Acting Senior Crown Counsel, to assist.

Carrington Mahoney, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, and Kael London, Crown Counsel, also travelled to Anguilla where they are leading prosecutions and helping to train prosecutors.

Meanwhile Jodia Hodge, of the Anguilla Attorney-General’s Chambers, has travelled to Bermuda to develop her skills and experience at the DPP’s office.

Ms Clarke said the department was honoured to work alongside colleagues in Anguilla.

She said: “The exchange of skills, knowledge and resources strengthens both of our jurisdictions and reflects the shared values that unite the Overseas Territories.”

Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, said the support offered by the DPP had an “immediate and positive impact” in Anguilla.

He added: “Ms Clarke and her team have not only helped with progressing urgent casework but provided invaluable assistance to help Anguillan prosecutors in their work to build a more resilient and capable local prosecution team.”

A government spokeswoman said the programme to build stronger prosecutorial teams and deepen professional ties will be funded by Anguilla.
