Road restrictions were in place in Paget this morning as efforts got under way to recover a trash truck that veered off the road and crashed yesterday.

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment advised the motoring public of an emergency lane closure on South Road, also known as Rural Hill, where the vehicle drove through a wall and toppled down an embankment.

The eastbound lane of South Road will be temporarily closed to facilitate the safe operation of a crane to recover the vehicle.

The westbound lane will remain open only to buses and tractor-trailer type vehicles, under controlled access using stop-and-go personnel.

Westbound motorists will be detoured via White Sands Road, then onto the Railway Trail, and back onto South Road.

Eastbound motorists should expect significant delays along Middle Road and South Road, and are strongly encouraged to use Harbour Road as an alternative route.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said: “The ministry thanks the public for their patience and co-operation during this emergency recovery operation and urges all drivers to proceed with caution in the area.”

Any questions regarding the works can be directed to Curtis Charles, the ministry’s highways engineers, on 501-3036.
