St George prepares to shine for celebratory holiday event
The Town of St George is preparing to shine through the holiday season with the Lighting of the Town celebration on November 29.
The event, once an annual tradition, will return after seven years as the town celebrates the 25th anniversary as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Quinell Francis, the Mayor of St George, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the community back for this special evening.
“The Lighting of the Town has always brought families and neighbours together, and reviving it during our Unesco anniversary year feels especially meaningful.
“This season reminds us of what truly matters — community, kindness and the light we share with one another.”
As part of the event, dignitaries including Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, will join the town council as lights illuminate King’s Square, Water Street, Ordnance Island and York Street up to Somers Garden.
The event will also feature performances by East End Primary School, St George’s Preparatory School, Richard Allen AME Church, Ebenezer Methodist Church and the Salvation Army, along with the Vibe Tribe Gombeys, DJ Mystro and PowerGirl.
Guests can also enjoy complimentary eggnog, donated by Dunkley’s, and visit a variety of vendors in the town.
Ms Francis added: “We invite everyone to join us for this magical evening. Let’s celebrate the holidays together in the heart of Bermuda’s history and community.”
The Lighting of the Town is scheduled to take place between 6.30pm and 9.30pm on November 29 in King’s Square.
