Generations gather to celebrate 100-year-old Ma Pearl
Family and friends gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday of a woman known to have touched many lives throughout her own.
Pearl Codrington, known as Ma Pearl, was joined by nearly 80 people for the milestone moment.
The celebration took place at the family homestead, Camber House, in Sandys, where David Burt attended to help honour the centenarian.
A government statement added: “Representatives from across the political spectrum were also present, reflecting the broad respect Mrs Codrington has earned throughout her lifetime.”
The Premier said: “It was an honour to celebrate Mrs Codrington’s 100th birthday surrounded by her family and the generations she has raised.
“Her story is one of perseverance, care and community.
“Few can say they have touched as many lives as she has and Bermuda is better for the love and example she continues to share.”
Highlights of the celebration, on November 10, included a touching performance by two of her great-grandchildren and the bringing together of generations.
When asked how she enjoyed her day, Mrs Codrington said that she “really enjoyed it, especially the food”.
The statement said: “Born on November 10, 1925, to Olive Smith and Samuel Trott, Mrs Codrington lost her mother during childbirth and was raised by her grandmother, Rose Smith.
“They lived in Daniel’s Head before moving to Manchester Street.
“After marrying Louis Codrington, she welcomed her first child, Clinton, affectionately known as Bo, while living on King Street.
“The family later moved to Boaz Island, where she raised her remaining children in King’s North House, Clock Block.
“In 1978, the family moved into Camber House, which has remained the family’s gathering place ever since.
“There, Mrs Codrington continued to nurture and guide her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbourhood children who became part of her extended family.
“Today, her legacy includes ten children, 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren who continue to carry forward her values of family, kindness and perseverance.”
