A church in Pembroke returns with its annual neighbourhood gathering on Sunday afternoon geared at fostering togetherness in the community.

The Christmas on the Curve social, to be hosted by the Church of God of Prophecy on Curving Avenue in Pembroke from 2pm to 5pm, will blend family, fun and fellowship.

Shayne Scott, the pastor of the church, said “the emphasis will be on reaching out to the children and helping them to have a great Christmas”.

Mr Scott said the event, now in its third year, “provides a safe and uplifting environment for the children”.

He added: “It is going to help produce character in them and show the love of God to them.

“It’s going to show a sense of hope and encouragement. We want to create a really rich sense of belonging in that community.”

Mr Scott said the church stands for unity and as such “we just want to embrace and give back to the community that we are in — we welcome everyone to be a part”.

The day comes with a range of family-oriented games and food for attendees.

The pastor said: “It will have a rich message of the real meaning of Christmas, how the Lord has done great things for us, he cares for us.”

Mr Scott called it a reminder that “the season’s reason is Jesus”.

The church is looking forward to the engagement of families.

“We just want to be part of investing in the next generation,” Mr Scott said.

“We are hoping that the community will sense that we are genuine and authentic and feel the hope that God provides.”
