A Pembroke primary school choir has released an original Christmas song to raise money for the school’s food programme.

Northlands Primary’s Have a Bermudaful Christmas was released on December 1 on all music-streaming platforms after a year of public anticipation.

The proceeds from the song will go towards the primary school’s breakfast and lunch programmes.

Terry Henry, the school’s music teacher who produced the song, said: “I’ve released things in the past, but that’s usually with a company — this is the first time doing it by myself.

“We’re still working out how payment will work, but whatever comes forward, we’ll donate it.”

Mr Henry said he came up with the idea last year during the Skyport Great Christmas Carol-Off as a way to end the competition with an original song.

He explained: “I wanted to do something different from the typical We Wish You a Merry Christmas to cap off the year.”

Mr Henry said that after thinking about the song before bed, he woke up one night with an idea of a melody and immediately recorded it on his phone.

Come morning, he played the melody on the piano and turned it into a song by the end of the day.

Mr Henry said that many people had asked for copies of the song once it was performed, with some radio station DJs even asking to play it on air.

He admitted that he was unable to give people their own recordings, which inspired him this year to record and publish Have a Bermudaful Christmas.

Mr Henry said his pupils enjoyed revisiting the song and assisting with the production and publication.

He added that the cash would go a long way towards helping care for students.

Mr Henry said: “We have students who come to school and they don’t have breakfast or anything to eat. I’ve seen it.

“We have a programme — but that programme needs money.”

Mr Henry said he was still working out how much money had been raised, but added that he was optimistic he would see more revenue given the anticipation.

He added that since its release, he received a lot of excitement from the public about an official launch.

“I think people are ready to get into the Christmas spirit with this song,” he said.
