The hospital’s hyperbaric oxygen chamber has been closed until at least February 1, the Bermuda Hospitals Board has announced.

It is the third time this year that the facility has been rendered out-of-action.

The BHB said that the chamber was closed to elective and emergency activity.

“This is due to the unavailability of qualified patient diving attendants,” the board added.

“We are taking active steps to resolve the situation.

“We are currently training staff members to become certified chamber attendants and have initiated a recruitment process.

“In the meantime, we advise the diving community that the hyperbaric service will not be available in the event of a diving accident.”

The chamber was temporarily closed in February owing to unexpected staffing issues and again in August for the same reason.
