Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, is representing Bermuda at the World Governments Summit 2026, in the United Arab Emirates, until tomorrow.

The summit annually hosts 150 governments, with thousands of attendees including heads of state, government ministers and private sector leaders, discussing the future of governance.

It explores how governments can harness innovation and technology to solve humanity’s universal challenges.

The focus is on technology and futurism: artificial intelligence, smart cities and science frontiers; societal wellbeing: happiness, healthcare and capacity building; global governance: effective leadership, economic prosperity and sustainable development.

Mr Hayward participated in panel discussions during the event, including the Government Experience Exchange Forum centred on the theme “Future of Trade and Economy”.

The keynote session explored smart investment, innovation and long‑term economic resilience.

He joined others from Finland, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Lebanon to share perspectives on strengthening economic stability.

He also participated in a discussion on how governments are strategically recalibrating their economic priorities for the year ahead and beyond.

Mr Hayward joined a panel alongside the UN Under‑Secretary‑General and Executive Director of UN‑Habitat, and Lebanon’s minister of economy and trade, together with the senior adviser to Canada’s economy minister.

He said the discussions offered invaluable insights into driving smart investment and fostering a culture of sustainable innovation.

Mr Hayward commented: “I value the opportunity to engage with fellow leaders and experts on shaping resilient economies for the future. Our goal remains to build strategic partnerships that will strengthen Bermuda’s economic growth and ensure we remain at the forefront of global governance.”
