League’s leading scorer Senoj Mitchell out to impress Findlay
Senoj Mitchell hopes to bolster his chances of playing for the national team by appearing for a Bermuda Select XI against touring side Portland Hearts of Pine over the next several days.
The Devonshire Colts forward is likely to feature in the first of two matches against the visiting USL League One side at Flora Duffy Stadium on Thursday night (7pm) and again on Sunday (2pm).
“This is definitely something that I have been pushing towards this season,” Mitchell told The Royal Gazette.
“I set three goals at the beginning of the season, and so far they all are possible. My first goal was to win the league, second was to be the leading goalscorer and third to get in the national team.
“To represent Bermuda for the sport that you love is everything. Being a part of the history of the country and being a positive long-term impact would mean the world to me.”
Mitchell is not a complete stranger to the national set-up having previously represented the island at youth level.
The 24-year-old has justified his spot in the development squad after thriving with Premier Division title contenders Colts this season ― scoring 15 goals in all competitions to date, including two hat-tricks, and also providing three assists.
“My season so far has been going great. Not only me personally, but Colts are in a great spot to win the league, which would be a huge bonus,” he said.
“My off-ball movement has helped me find spaces to be in areas to cause problems for teams.”
Mitchell has thoroughly enjoyed training with the Bermuda Select in the build-up to the first game this week.
“My experience so far has been great,” he said. “The standard and intensity of the training is at a great level and I’m definitely excited to see how we are going to perform against Portland Hearts of Pine
“The coaches are demanding higher quality from the players in all aspects. Our defensive structure is to be hard to score against and finding good-quality chances to break through lines to create chances for ourselves.”
