Bermuda College president to be honoured in US
David Sam, the president of Bermuda College, is set to be recognised by his alma mater in April for his work in education.
Illinois State University has announced that Dr Sam will receive the university’s Achievement Award at its annual Alumni Awards on April 24.
A ISU spokesman said that the award recognises “significant achievements of alumni to society, their profession or Illinois State” based on significant accomplishments in the recipients chosen field.
Prior to joining Bermuda College in 2024, Dr Sam served as president of Elgin Community College in Illinois for more than 17 years.
The spokesman said: “Under Dr Sam’s leadership, ECC earned national recognition as a Top 25 Community College of Excellence by the Aspen Institute in 2023 and was named among the Top 150 colleges multiple times.
“He led a $178 million campus transformation referendum, secured top bond ratings from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s, and oversaw a period during which 57 per cent of all degrees and certificates in the college’s history were awarded.”
