David Burt joined a Bermudian delegation at the DC Blockchain Summit last week to meet officials and promote the island as a business destination.

The Premier and Minister of Finance, along with officials from the Bermuda Monetary Authority, the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Bermuda Washington DC Office participated in the summit, which is focused on advancing responsible digital asset innovation and regulation.

A government spokeswoman said the summit brought together federal lawmakers, regulators and senior industry leaders to discuss the future of blockchain and financial innovation.

The spokeswoman said: “During the summit, Mr Burt engaged in discussions with policymakers, regulators and industry stakeholders on regulatory co-operation, market integrity and the evolving global framework for digital assets.

“The conversations highlighted Bermuda’s experience developing a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital asset businesses under the Digital Asset Business Act, and the role of the BMA in supporting responsible innovation.

“Bermuda’s participation in this year’s summit strengthened the island’s US partnerships in areas including stablecoins, payments interoperability, tokenisation and supervisory approaches for emerging financial technologies.”

During the summit, Mr Burt took part in a fireside conversation with Raja Chakravorti, chief business officer of the Stellar Development Foundation, discussing plans for Bermuda to become the world’s first fully on-chain economy.

Mr Burt also took part in bilateral meetings with Tom Emmar, the House Majority Whip along with representatives Steven Horsford, Bryan Steil, Nikki Budzinski and Trump Administration officials.

The spokeswoman added: “In these conversations, Mr Burt expressed Bermuda’s willingness to support the upcoming implementation of the United States’ digital asset regulation, in addition to aligning on comparability standards between the Genius Act and Bermuda’s Digital Asset Business Act.

“The visit reinforced Bermuda’s position as an important participant in global policy conversations on financial innovation.”
