Pedestrian, 73, seriously injured in Hamilton crash

A man has been arrested after a senior was struck by a car in Hamilton, sustaining serious injuries.

A police spokesman said that at about 6.30pm, officers were dispatched to a serious road traffic incident involving a car and a pedestrian at the junction of Reid Street and Parliament Street.

The spokesman said: “Upon arrival, a 73-year-old male was found lying on the pedestrian cross walk suffering from multiple injuries to the body.

“The victim told the officers he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop.

“He was attended to at the scene by EMTs and transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment of his injuries which are considered serious.

“Subsequent enquiries by officers, including a review of CCTV footage, led to the arrest of a 49-year-old suspect.”

The spokesman urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 295-0011.
