Primary school to celebrate 75 years of education
Francis Patton School in Hamilton Parish will launch celebrations for its 75th anniversary this week with an event recognising two of the school’s first students.
A spokeswoman from the school’s Alumni Association said a series of events are planned to take place over the next few months, urging all alumni, educators, principals, families and supporters to get involved.
The spokeswoman said: “This anniversary is more than a celebration, it is a movement to strengthen alumni engagement, school pride and long-term support for future generations.
“Alumni are encouraged to proudly represent their house — Red, Blue or Gold — as friendly rivalry returns in full force.”
The celebration will kick off on Friday with an alumni social at the Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club between 6pm and 8pm.
The event will be followed by a tea social at the school on the afternoon of April 9, an Alumni and Community Fun Day at the school on May 16 and the 75th Anniversary Gala on June 6.
As part of the anniversary festivities, special recognition will be given to Esme Williams and Delano Ingham, both members of the school’s inaugural 1951 class.
Ms Williams, who went on to become an educator and principal, said she was excited to celebrate the school’s anniversary, reflecting on her first days at Francis Patton.
She said: “We walked to school from Holy Trinity Road, and I remember standing across the street lined up with my classmates, waiting to be assigned to our teachers. I was right at the front of the line.”
Ms Williams recalled studying arithmetic, geography, English and bible studies, along with music and physical education.
She said: “Sports was a big focus back then. There was a strong emphasis on staying active — I don’t recall having the obesity challenges we see now. I remember my PE uniform and the pride we had in representing our school.”
Francis Patton alumni are encouraged to sign up to the Alumni database and learn more about anniversary events online at https://linktr.ee/FrancisPattonAlumni.
