UK study visit expected to strengthen public works areas
Representatives of the Government including the public works minister are in the UK this week for the Overseas Territories Trade and Investment Study Visit.
Jaché Adams, the Minister of Public Works and Environment, has been joined by Kirk Outerbridge, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Kimberley Durrant, Bermuda’s UK representative, and Brandon Sousa, the deputy UK representative.
The engagement includes representatives from the British Overseas Territories who are taking part in a programme of discussions and site visits covering infrastructure, climate resilience, waste-to-energy, transport, water management and other areas relevant to island governments.
Mr Adams said: “This visit is important because it gives Bermuda a direct opportunity to engage with other Overseas Territories and UK organisations on practical infrastructure challenges that small jurisdictions share.
“It allows us to examine approaches that may help strengthen Bermuda’s long-term planning, resilience and delivery in key public works areas.
“For Bermuda, there is particular value in seeing how others are approaching energy recovery, sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience.
“Those discussions are relevant to our ongoing work, including the future development of the Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility and wider efforts to ensure our infrastructure remains modern, reliable and fit for Bermuda’s needs.”
