College outlines engineering options abroad for students
Students who wish to pursue engineering can explore options through an information session at the Bermuda College this month.
The college said the forum, which runs from 6pm on April 30 at the Butterfield & Vallis Conference Centre at the institution’s Paget campus, will be hosted collaboratively with the University of Memphis.
The forum will outline engineering education pathways and career opportunities for students and families.
Representatives from both institutions will attend in person and virtually to answer questions on admissions, credit transfer and degree completion.
It will highlight an articulation agreement signed last year between the college and the University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering, enabling students to move from an Associate of Science degree into undergraduate engineering programmes in the US.
Eligible Bermuda College graduates can transfer credits into Bachelor of Science programmes in biomedical, civil, electrical, computer and mechanical engineering, as well as engineering technology at the Herff College.
Students may complete bachelor’s degrees within two to three years of transfer. The college said the option reduced time and expense while maintaining academic quality.
Ali Arouzi, Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Bermuda College said: “This partnership expands opportunities for Bermuda College students to pursue internationally recognised engineering degrees.
“The pathway will expand students’ opportunities through a clear, affordable route while deepening connections and building enduring partnerships with industry.”
Dr Arouzi said the agreement also supported workforce development by helping to address skills gaps in engineering and technical sectors.
Okenwa Okoli, Dean and Professor at the Herff College of Engineering, said the agreement would create a clear, high-quality route for students.
Dr Okoli said called it “a critical link between earning a degree and securing employment”.
He added: “Together, we’re building a stronger future for Bermuda’s workforce, while inviting you into our supportive Memphis community.”
The college said the articulation agreement was its most comprehensive in the engineering field, and one of 41 overseas agreements designed to create transfer pathways for Bermudian students.
