Police hand out 70 parking tickets in one day

Police issued 70 tickets yesterday to drivers parked along sidewalks near the National Sports Centre in Devonshire.

Acting Chief Inspector Anthony Smith reminded motorists that parking “on sidewalks, verges or roadways in a way that blocks access for residents, pedestrians or other road users creates unnecessary inconvenience and can pose a safety risk”.

Mr Smith added: “The public is also advised that this parking rule applies during all events held at the National Sports Centre.

“There have been suggestions that these restrictions are not equally enforced, particularly in relation to the International Rugby Classic.

“That is not the case — similar public advice was issued during that event, clearly warning motorists against unlawful parking in the surrounding area.”

Police urged everyone attending NSC events to plan ahead, use lawful parking and “avoid leaving their vehicles in locations that may result in enforcement”.
