Drink-driver banned after crashing bike

A drink-driver who crashed his bike was fined $1,500 and banned from the roads.

Norville Yarde, 63, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Police were called to South Road in Warwick after hearing about an incident involving a motorcycle, the court heard.

Yarde identified himself as the rider and told officers: “I was on my way home to Jones Village and must have slid out.”

Officers pointed out to Yarde that his speech was slurred, which he denied.

When asked if he had been drinking, Yarde told police that he had “one Corona at about 9am this morning”.

Police arrested Yarde, from Warwick, on suspicion of drink-driving. When they told him they were arresting him, he said: “That’s no problem.”

The incident happened on March 3.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy banned Yarde from the roads for 18 months. He was ordered to pay his fine by the end of the week.
